Book Review: When Jesus Wept, Jerusalem Chronicles by Bodie and Brock Thoene

Do you love God’s Word?  Do you love page turning, full adventure books?  Read on my friend as I have one for you.

If you are familiar with the Bible at all you’ve read  the story of Lazarus.  Just in case you missed it, Jesus Christ raised Lazarus of Bethany from the dead in the Bible.  No matter how many times you’ve read this story in Scripture or heard the preaching on raising of Lazarus from the dead, “When Jesus Wept” is a fictional retelling of this story and it it is truly amazing.  This story was written by Bodie and Brock Thoene.

“When Jesus Wept” is a fictional recounting of the story of Lazarus of Bethany told from Lazarus’s point of view.  The book  was written as though Lazarus is sharing with you each and every event in his life.  This is my first time reading a book by Bodie and Brock Thoene.

BThoene-130I have to say they are one of my new favorite authors.  I will be checking out more of their historical biblical fiction books soon.  I loved how they stayed true to Scripture with the story of Lazarus.  Most fiction books are truly just fiction.  But the Thoene’s took words of Scripture and wove it within a story, plot and life a Biblical character in such a way that it is easy to read and makes you want to read.

“When Jesus Wept” is a page turner to say the least.  Even though I was familiar with the story of Lazarus death and resurrection this book draws you in and you can’t put it down until you reach the end.

I loved that the Scripture was woven within the story, plot and adventure of the book.  I loved that God’s word was illuminated.  The Bible opens up to you as you read this work of fiction.  “When Jesus Wept” is very eacy to read and you are captivated from the first page.
