The Homemaker’s Friend – A Planning Necessity – Product Review.

Time management is a word most of us dread.  Time management causes us to stop and take a long hard look at exactly what we are doing with the time given to us by God.  Are we good stewards of our time?  Are we wasting precious time?  Are we trying to manage our time, when instead time is managing us?

I have share before on my blog about my struggle as a working mother with time.  There just isn’t enough hours in the day.  I am always running short.  Do you feel the same way? I know that my days are more productive and God glorifying when I’ve used a planning tool in the past, but I couldn’t find one to work for me in this season of my life.   I’ve tried just about every planning device in the world, or so I thought.

I stumbled across a website that sells the Daily Planner.  After spending sometime on the website, I couldn’t believe how economical this planning tool was.  The second thing that really stood out to me was how attractive this planner was.  The planner that I needed would be a tool that I would carry with me every where.  It was beautiful.  Bright, colorful and very well-made.  In other words, it would stand the test of time in my life.  The next thing I did was contacted Sue Hooley to make sure that her Daily Planner contained a full 12 months.  After seeing the price of this planning tool, I thought it was a partial year calendar.  The price was so great!  So I wrote an email to Sue asking her if her Daily Planner contained a whole year.  I received a swift reply that the answer was yes.  So I was sold.  But, Sue made me an offer I could not refuse.  She asked me if I would be interested in reviewing her Daily Planner.  Since I am a product review blogger, I said yes immediately.  What an awesome opportunity to try out a new planning product in exchange for a review.  A win, win situation for both of us.  But, Sue sent me two planners, a 2013 and a 2014 Daily Planner.  A great way for me to start establishing the habit of planning now.

I am first and foremost a child of God, second I am a wife to my dear husband and mother to my three children and then I am an employee outside my home.  After realizing that Sue was also a child of the King, a wife, mother and work at home mom I was overjoyed.  At last someone whose roles were reflective of my very own and here was a planning product that worked in her life.  I eagerly awaited the arrival of the package.

The Homemaker’s Friend Daily Planner is a very versatile planner that is detailed.  At the beginning of the Daily Planner is a how-to section.  I suggest reading this if you are planning challenged such as I am.  I love that at the front of the Daily Planner there is a yearly calendar for the current year and the year to come.  I can’t tell you how many times, I’ve needed a date one year in advance only to struggle with finding it.  The Daily Planner has tabs that are included with every planner.  No more sticky notes used as bookmarks that fall off.  Just select the tab needed and you are at the page.  At the beginning of each of the tabs included in your spiral bound planner is an inspirational quote.

The Dates to Remember section under the Year tab is very useful and has endless possibilities.  You can tailor make this section to fit your life.  Yet it is still structured enough to work.  I use my Dates to Remember section to write down birthday’s, anniversaries, and milestones in our family.  By writing all these important dates down I no longer have to rely on my memory to keep track.  This has helped me to not miss those important events in my family.

Sue Hooley of The Homemaker’s Friend began her first publication of the Daily Planner in 2010.  100’s of people have benefited from her planning advice and the tool she created.  I attribute her successful planning tool to the fact that she is just like us, a wife, mother who has been entrusted with the same amount of time we are in our life by the Lord.  She created a tool that actually works in the lives of those who implement it.

The next section in the Daily Planner is the Monthly view.  Each month has a two page spread in this planner.  No more small spaces to write in important dates and times.  Plenty of space to write out your monthly to do lists.  It even includes a side bar for notes.  The monthly calendar in the 2013 Daily Planner starts with December 2012 and ends with January 2014 so you get one month before the year begins and one month after the year ends.  Next we have the week view tab, which includes the date for the current week, and a planning space for Monday through Sunday.  At the top of each weekly page is a task list where you can keep track of recurring tasks.  What an amazing tool.  We all have tasks that repeat themselves and this is a way to have them with you at all times.  This tool has really simplified my life.

The Task tab is next within the Daily Planner.  These are basically lined pages where you can write down current tasks, tasks to-do, and future tasks.  The great thing about this section is you can make it work for you by creating your own system.  You don’t have to follow the rules here, what works for you, use it.  Next is the Project Tab which is also blank and you can be creative here also.  Next is the Info tab where you can store important names, numbers and addresses all in one easily accessed place.  Last but not least is the Shopping Tab.  You can create your shopping lists  on these pages that are lined and three column.  These pages are perforated so you can fold them over and pop them out to take with you on your shopping trip.  The last thing I loved about the Daily Planner is the pockets in the back.  What an awesome place to store appointment cards, coupons and memento’s.

I recommend the Daily Planner to anyone who needs order in their life.  This is a tool that is easy to implement and fun to use.  I return to my planner time and time again.  After using the 2013 Daily Planner it has held up extremely well.  In and out of my purse.  On my desk where coffee is always spilled.  It has survived and is still beautiful.   I would be honored if you would visit Sue’s Homemaker’s Friend website and check out for yourself her planning tool the Daily Planner.  Just click on Daily Planner anywhere within this post and you’ll be taken to Sue’s website.  Drop her a line and let her know you seen the review on my website.

Until Next Time,
